Betty
Weiner at Williams puts finishing touches on a mural
of George
Washington at Baker-Butler Elementary School. The team also painted
Harriet Tubman and Martin Luther King, Jr. - historic figures who represent
the essence of their Character Counts program.
Volunteers from Alltel
painted alligator footprints up the sidewalk to
the entrance of Agnor Hurt Elementary School. The alligator is
the school mascot. Seen below, the students offered Jamie Yowell
some ice tea to provide some refreshment on the hot day.
Jorgen Vik from Merrill
Lynch worked with the Candace Smith
Architects firm to paint a yellow border along the ceiling
of the
hallways at Woodbrook Elementary School. Then they added blue
bear paw prints. They listened to the students' comments all day -
"It's Woody's footprints!" Woody is their school mascot.
State Farm
volunteers tackled a large mural at Brownsville Elementary
School, painting an under water theme that brings some life to
the tired cafeteria walls.
University
of Virginia volunteers painted "Welcome" and yellow
jackets (school mascot) to welcome visitors as they enter the
covered walkway at B. F. Yancey Elementary School.
State Farm
volunteers repainted a large checkerboard at
Clark Elementary School. The checkerboard is aligned so that the
corners also serve as a compass.
State Farm volunteers painted a world map on the blacktop
at
Paul H. Cale Elementary School. A United States map (seen in the
background) was painted on a previous Day of Caring).
Bristol
Myers Squibb volunteers transformed a concrete slab on
the playground at Stone-Robinson Elementary School into a miniature
town that can be used by K-1 students during recess.
