UVA Procurement Services Department hosted the "Shake a Rug Senior
Dance" at the Jefferson Area Board for Aging Adult Day Health
Care Center, encouraging clients to join in the dancing! Though this project
has been known by different names, it's always a favorite for the volunteers.

"The clients benefited from the Day of Caring because they were able to meet new people whom were able to get clients up and dancing that normally don't get out of their chairs that often during the day. Once they were up and dancing they stayed on the dance floor! The decorations adda touch to the day, as well!

Volunteers from Jefferson Area Board for Aging and UVA Health
System became reading buddies with kindergarten to third grade students.
The Agnor-Hurt librarian selected books for the volunteers to read that
focused on character education and civic duties.

The residents at Morningside Senior Living know what kind of
volunteers they like -- the kind that bring food! Residents enjoyed an
ice cream topping contest on September 21 with Bristol Myers
Squibb Company, and autumn pies on October 21 with Hantzmon
Wiebel volunteers. October 21 included a "paint a pumpkin" activity.

Volunteers from Martha Jefferson Hospital and UVA Law School
cheered on the Area 3 Special Olympics Golf Team at Birdwood Golf
Course during one of their regular practices. Volunteers offered high-fives,
pats on the back and shared lots of smiles with golfers.

For several years, the Crutchfield team has enjoyed a wonderful BBQ
lunch with the clients at the Arc of the Piedmont. Volunteers cook up
some burgers on the grill and prepare plates and drinks for the
clients after enjoying some outdoor games.
